there was an interesting discussion between a couple of friends of mine about the state of health care in kuwait. one of the guys was complaining about how bad the public hospitals were and how incompetent they're getting. another guy (who happens to be a surgeon) agreed that overall the situation was not so good, but mentioned that the public governmental hospitals were still much better then the private ones. i know, a few people were surprised to hear that but he continued on saying that medically, the public ones were much better. the private hospitals, among many other reasons, dont really have to answer to anyone and that their main aim was, after all, making a profit. his example of why this was true was that almost all private hospitals in kuwait refer all their high risk and very complicated cases to government hospitals, cuz they are not capable of dealing with them.
at the end it made a lot of sense, especially since it came from someone who knows what he's talking about. is it true? i dont know but if we think of it, where does most of the effort in private hospitals go? is it in providing the best health care or providing the most comfortable and luxurious hospital stay? is it true that there is a 7,000 KD per night room at the new 7ayat hospital? last but not least, would you rather, alah laygoola, when facing life and death, would you rather be in a hospital where their main concern and responsibility to the government was to get you back on your feet or would you rather have designer sheets and a coffee shop in the lobby?

Personally, I think government is better than private. I gave birth in two private hospitals and one of them nearly killed me. I got pre-natal care from both government and private during my second pregnancy and the government pre-natal care was outstanding while private was less than average. When it came down to delivery though, I chose private for comfort and my had found a qualified Slovenian doctor who did a great job with my c-section.
Also, the government hospitals have a lot of Kuwaitis who studied abroad (and actually studied) and I find most of them extremely bright and qualified. None of the private doctors picked up on the fact that one of my children has anemia and other problems. It was a Kuwaiti doctor at Amiri who picked up on everything.
Honestly I have had bad experiences from both sides, goverment and private. The main reason i dont like the way private hospitals work is their lack of supervision. There is a doctor who has become head of a private hospital in Kuwait that was banned from practicing medicine due to inhumane practices (i believe he killed someone). Interesting isnt it? I think the main reason private hospitals exist in kuwait is society utter obsession with material things. Honestly this whole entire ordeal regarding overpriced rooms etc... makes me sick. You go to the hospital to get better, not to show off how nice your hospital room is..
if a private hospital is not doing a good job then people wont go there and if it is doing a really bad job then it could be shut down by the government.. but if government hospitals are not doing a good job then who is going to hold them accountable?!
Well i don't care if its private or government hospital as long as i'm getting the right treatment...
As for Royal Hayat hospital yup there's a suite for 6000 KD per night...they are my clients...it's a very posh hospital and they have so many customers as well...u should see their plastic surgery section...thats another story!

In bahrain, we have both private and govermental hospitals.. both are good.. I prefer the private ones, becuase they take good care of the patients and their medication is better!
bas we have a private section in the govermental hospitals... the prices arent high.. around 60 dinars per night.. the room has a comfy bed, mini fridge, a large bathroom, tv and a satellite......etc

My friend and I were recently talking about how technology has become so integrated in our day to day lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that debate we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.
I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further develops, the possibility of uploading our memories onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's one of the things I really wish I could see in my lifetime.
