cold sick

I felt sick at work today, fa zarragt o meshait embacher. Came back home early, had soup, watched marry poppins, then the fantastic four, now am watching the bourne identity on mbc 2. This whole situation wouldnt be so bad if i didnt have to go to work early saturday morning.  When i get sick i usually take as much a time off as possible so i can get rid of the sickness as quickly as possible, but with this having to work on saturday it looks like this virus aint going no where anytime soon.

To say that i really really needed last weeks vacation would be a gross understatement, it would be like saying bush didnt deserve the shoe, or something like that. Actually i still think i need it, a7is ena makanat kfaya. bs el7imdila.
One of the things i loved about this vacation is that i got to spend more than a week without internet and very limited tv. I was worried at first especially about no internet, cuz i have this daily ritual of websites i have to check and if i dont i would feel lost, like the feeling you have when you leave home and realize you left the mobile phone at home. 7asait nafsee ma3zool 3an baji el 3alam bs ana o rab3i o ahali. But it turned out to be a great thing. I really felt like i did something different.
It also made me appreciate all the small things we take for granted on a daily basis. But mostly, it was a blast, and am glad that i didnt have to travel to have fun. I really dont get some people who cannot have fun in kuwait. A7is'hom misakeen lazem esafroon 3alashan yistansoon.  Anyways, if ever you get a chance to leave your daily habits behind and commit to doing something different then i suggest you go for it, it's fun.

Kuwait City here i come

raptor or grizzly?

Raptor

Raptor pros: Fast! Made from pure adrenaline, and made for pure fun
Raptor cons: Fast! as in goes up to 180Kilometers per hour, lightweight and smaller than the Grizzly, which for me translates to will flip me over and on my head in a heartbeat. Oh and plus it's a clutch gear which i don't know how to use but friends say is very easy to learn.

Grizzly

Grizzly pros: Fun, useful when the need arises, bigger and safe to a greater extent than the Raptor. Auto transmission
Grizzly cons: Slower, max speed is 110, heavier, and was made primarily as a useful ATV.

your very own london tunnel

when i first saw this my first reaction was "wait, am an arab guy, would they let me buy it?", for some reason the fact that i dont have $7.4 million to throw away wasnt a problem for me. To learn more about how you can buy a mile long tunnel in london, read the times.

Liberal kuwaiti women

I found this article from a while back which talked about when kuwaiti women got the right to vote and run in the natinal elections. At the top of the article, you can see a picture that i guess was used to show both the liberal side and the traditinal side of kuwait. Its wierd that such a mistake could come from such a good news agency like BBC. Here's the picture from the article:

single kuwaities convention

This is an open invitation to all single kuwaity men and women to attend kuwait's a many-times-a-year annual event held at a local hotel ballroom or a new cool venue that will be out of style next year. Timing is, as conditions of lighting dictate, will be after dark. Conditions at the convention will be mildly hot as to give to the many faces a beautiful glow and shine. A testimonial from one of last years participants says "its addictive, it makes me wanna go again the next day". Dont let this chance pass you by, come to the convention and remember:
al ba3thu yab7ath 3an al sa3ada , wa alba3thu ya9na3ha
Dont wait for your mother to pick the girl of your dreams for you, come to the convention and find her with you very own eyes.

Come quickly cuz event will soon be banned by these guys:

fatafeat

i learned that not going to work and having nothing to do except waiting for fu6oor makes me feel hungrier than ever, specially when for some reason am lying motionless in bed staring helplessly at danya khateeb ( of one hit wonder fame of a song i think better known as koko kooooko) in her cooking show on fatafeat. The theme of the show is that in every episode she goes to a different country and cooks with the local people something traditional. All the while through watching the show i cant stop thinking of fu6oorna, a fav of mine, 3aish ma3a la7am mafrooom makhlooo6 ma3a chutney spices. I need to get my mind thinking of something else other then food, cuz thinking of food this much while fasting has to be some sorta sin.
Trying to think of something else, i found myself googling images of biryani when i stumbled on this post somewhere from a complete idiot on how arabs supposedly eat biryani. The ignorance i see in some people just amazes me sometimes. Ah no use, i will try to sleep off the hunger.

off to kubbar for the day

image taken from Q8_Hazrd's flickr photostream

BBQ, swimming, hanging under the sun with friends....not everyone who goes there goes there to do bad deeds, regular ole' time fun still exists. A note to the political islamists, stop spreading the bad images of Kuwait to try and scare people into believing our road to salvation lays solely under your virtuous hands.

I've been looking for a good music player to put on this blog for a while but most required me to upload my own songs somewhere and am just too lazy to do any of that. I finally found this good Internet radio thing that I've installed from helpmechill.com. The music is what i call background music, something i can listen to while not really listening too it, it's something i hear in the background while doing anything else. I'll try it out for a few days and i might decide to leave it for good.

the mist

This movie is as much about aliens or scary creatures as the Iraq invasion was about weapons of mass destruction. Stephen King takes a long hard look at human nature and what would we do when faced with an impossible situation. I personally think it is one of the best movies based on a Stephen King story, in this case a Novella about a mysterious mist that traps the people of a small up-state New York town in a grocery store, and how differently some people deal with their fear.

mad dogs!

Yesterday, as you know, was august 4. Two things you might not have known about august 4th is that one, it is my birthday and two, its the date in which a small number of people in a small town somewhere in the English country side celebrate Saint Sithney day. Naturaly, I was intrigued as to find out a little more about my birthday saint so I turned to the most unreliable yet most quoted source on the internet, wikipedia. According to the site, God "asked Sithney to be the patron saint of girls seeking husbands, but Sithney said he would rather be the patron saint of mad dogs and get some rest."
Anyways, i would like to find out if any of you guys can guess how old i became yesterday, most people guess my age wrong by a couple of years based on how i look so it would be interesting to see how old people think i am based on how i "blog". There might be a prize for the person who guess's it right ;p

summer 08

doesnt it seem like everyone is in a land far far away having a jolly good summer time as expected while you are stuck here struggling with the question if you should go see the new x-files movie or just watch the dvd you bought from jabriya yesterday?
but i guess there are worst things then being stuck in kuwait, in the mean, time enjoy your summer wherever you are

NOOR is taking over the world

when do you know that a certain show is a hit?

when you hear your 5 year old niece and her Ethiopian nanny (khadama) argue about a meaning of a certain scene
when your sister quickly says "commercial is over" and click! hangs up the phone to continue watching the show
when all the girls status on msn is curiously set to away at a certain time of day
i havent seen something like this since the first star academy hit kuwait.

Paul's blog on Kuwaiti nomadic roots

i dont remember how i came across this blog but it contained a few posts about life in Kuwait as seen through the eyes of a foreign contractor. one post in particular that got my attention was about when Kuwaitis start camping out in the desert during winter. the reason why it got my attention is the fact that in this tiny post by Paul, you get a glimpse of all the problems in our society. I wont go into details, i'll just let you read the post so you can judge for yourselves and see how foreigners like Paul see us. Link

the way bored are

little miss Fayoora has done the unthinkable and gone ahead and tagged me in a post where am supposed to ask you guys, my many anonymous loyal readers out there, to ask you how do you imagine i look like. i often put an image in my head towards someone or something am reading about, i cant help it am a visual person so i have to use imagery a lot. so with that said, how do you imagine i look like? to make it easier i put a few options, a few choices you can pick from to associate with the way i are:

the marlboro man, the definition of ruggedness, a real man's man, the last of a dying breed

cloony, regular guy with a twist

superman, in other words perfection, even his hair never moves

devito, the opposite of superman, yet against all odds made it in this big world of ours

last but certainly not least, sexy homi, a true legend, a hero to all mankind, the perfect father, husband, worker, friend and most definitely, neighbor!

i have no idea how the direction of this post got here, this was supposed to be about how i looked and ended up being a tribute to some of the greats our gender has to offer....anyways, let me know what you think.

a perfect day in rome

woke up in the early morning to the cool breeze coming from the open window, the weather was in a word, perfect.

had breakfast at the hotel, then took a short walk to the Spanish steps

had some gelato at the trevi fountain

walked along the Tiber river

and the castel San Angelo

stopped at st. peters basilica in Vatican city

saw the old ruins

the Colosseum

had dinner in front of the pantheon

and last but certainly not least, attended Manchester United vs. A.S Roma, and although Roma lost that day, the atmosphere and the crowd were simply an unforgettable end to a perfect roman day

be the "hottest, coolest, most famous bimbo in the whole world"

thats the objective of a new online game thats getting a lot of attention these days.
the website, missbimbo.com offers the users a chance to make their inner dreams of becoming a true bimbo come true. you get a girl with little bimbo dollars, and you objective is to be famous and land a rich hubby. the tools at your disposal are diet pills, breast implants, and some racy lingerie. needless to say that this website has stirred up a lot of anger because of the "sexist and dangerous messages being sent to young women". oh btw, the creators of the website are both men, but they're french so...?

Crazy Shopping Website

If you ever lived in the states and stayed up in front of the television past 1 am then you've probably come across the infamous infomercials. The idea behind Honeyshed is a continuous stream of commercials brought to you by a bunch of insane young sales persons who sell the products with lines like "these jeans are good for a girl with a big ass." Check it out.
