do you ever get the feeling that we kuwaities sometimes take things just a little bit too far? as if there is a special gene in our kuwaiti blood that makes us feel good to over do things. i mean am not saying it's a bad thing, it's just a part of what makes us who we are, it's just sometimes i wonder about the reasonableness of certain things. lets take for example some of the crazy scenes i've seen over the national holiday weekend like a horse carriage turned into a water balloon tank parading up and down the streets of bnaider. what i really want to talk about today is the craze over the blackberry phone that has engulfed the kuwaiti mainstream life. let me be the first to admit that, while i dont own one, i did strongly consider buying one for a while. what can i say, the hype has gotten to me before (hence the iphone). but the main reason why i didnt buy it is because a lot of people complain about restarts and bad signals and i really didnt need any of those. anyways, nowadays you cant help but notice everyone is owning one, and i cant see an end to kuwait's love affair with that now famous BB pin. there's even a blog dedicated to blackberry in kuwait, people have started facebook groups and communities for kuwaiti blackberry owners, it is now obligatory to congratulate a new blackberry owner via status change, hell i wouldnt be surprised if sometime in the future girls will start having an "istiqbal" cuz she got a new blackberry, god knows they have one for almost anything these days.

i just have one question for everyone out there who has bought or knows someone who has bought a blackberry:
is it THAT good or is it just another case of a kuwaiti haba?
16 people read this and said:
I dont have a BB yet and some people are already telling me that I am so ut of date hehehe
3 months and Bb's will be OUT and a new habba ibti6la3;p I considered buying one.. bas when I tried it out, I felt that it was just another habba;p it's not that special;p
HEY! That was way over 10 lines! :P
I don't think it's a Kuwaiti habba I think it's a telecom industry habba which hit the corporate sector in the States a while ago so it's only normal for the craze to hit us as well. I wonder if in the US the non business sector uses it as commonly? Madri I don't think so. Anyway I admit I don't own one and have no intention to buy one any time soon because well I don't care what it has to offer me my phone is enough.
got one, you have to have one. WHY ?
if you work in an enterprise ? want all your calendar, meetings, emails and contacts in your phone ? you have to have a BB. It works perfectly well with these systems.
Excellent for going through Word, powerpoint and excel files.
aside from the bb service itself.
Ignore the fact that it's a habba and forget that a lot of people have it, just think about you buying it for you regardless of the hype around you. Do your research and see what it has to offer then decide.
loooool
3ad i really wanted a BB yrs ago bs didnt get one not even now!! a7es im really gna use it (with all the meetings im attend u know;p) bs really i love having access to the internet 24/7 oo my mobile bill proves it ;(

zaina: yeah probably, i tried one too and didnt like it bs mo lana it wasnt good, its just i got so used to a touch screen that anything other than that is just isnt good enough.
1001: lol shasawee gimt ashta6 3ala posting again ;p it is, i mean just look at the guy who tattooed a bb one his foot, or arm, i dont know i cant tell
abdulla: yeah i heard that business wise it's great, eb sharikatna it's mandatory ena el managers get one.
elieruby: thats the smart thing to do and i think that after that i wouldnt buy it
dee: get el iphone, fee kilshay u need ;p
f: eh
LOL it's his leg you can tell from the white socks :D
lol yeah yer right ;p
It is a habba but for the first time in Kuwaiti history, I'm proud that it got out. I used to obsess about owning blackberries before they got to Kuwait because they looked 'pretty' so when they actually started working in Kuwait I did not hesitate to get me one. I saved for 2 months until I finally got the new curve.
Anyway, so ever since I got it, my phone bill dropped from 50-60 per month to 28KD including the BB service. Can you imagine?
Not to mention the free email services. I get my university emails from my professors around the clock which has been a lifesaver for me.
ruby doo
hmmm laish qalat ur fone bill? is it mn el msging service ele i keep hearing about?
What are you guys talking about? .. when TV first came out it wasnt a "Habba" and then it died! .. you know why? coz it works and people like it (& need it)
Now, bare with me for a sec, I m gonna do a little calculation here to bring another point accross ..
On average (in KD)
a Reg Phone Costs = 60
an IPOD (not Iphone!!) cost = 90
a good GPS system cost = 140
a 3.2 MP costs = 20
Now lets count the price of all those little gizmos and see how much we save when we buy a single device that has all the above mentioned functions :D.. 310 for 4 devices VS 200 for 1 device .. what do you guys think ?
Plus dont forget that having an unblocked internet connection in Kuwait is priceless!
and having an access to your E mails and webfolders at anytime is priceless as well..
Now, Ladies & Gents, I will glady say that YES, I AM A BLACKBERRY OWNER :D
(Blackberry company should give me some commission on this presentation!!)
well I'm a Blackberry owner since 2007 and had to have it replaced 4-3 times because I dropped 2-3 of them in water Oops!,its a very useful device - atleast for me - I use it for emails probably more than a phone, im happy with it because I don't always have to be near a computer to get my work done.
and I'm sorry to say that Kuwaiti ppl sucks when it comes to new habba, its because i cannot fathom why does kuwaiti (kids) walk around with a phone that has a keyboard, email access, plays movies and doubles as a personal trainer !!
well just because they can afford it doesn't mean they need it. just because it's technically feasible doesn't mean it's desirable.
Or am I just getting old? =p
